Carpets. White Carpets.

So I love this purple bottle!  I can't remember who introduced me to it for the first time - I honestly think it was a stranger because I went looking for the purple labeled carpet cleaner. No name. A color was what I was searching for.  It has changed my life.  Even in my old house which had less than half the square footage in carpet, when I first discovered it, it changed my life.  I had to share with my readers, all 3 of you, because today I had a unique situation and this stuff saved my carpet.

So my kids have a playroom in our new home.  It's a decent size, and compared to our old house, they finally have the space to play with their Legos and Barbies, just in time to grow up and not require that space anymore...but that's another story.  They are in charge of keeping it clean, and don't always do the best job (that's me being nice).  I have to walk through it to get to the garage or laundry room from the kitchen and the rest of the house so I'm always stepping on Legos or Barbie shoes.  I've been on them for a week about picking it up but somehow an hour, two, sometimes three go by and they've only built more Lego masterpieces and created a bigger mess.  (I totally need to record myself saying, "Are you cleaning up?" and save my voice).

I digress, so today I went through the playroom and picked up all the little pieces. I had a day off work, and really needed to get in that space to clean up the carpet.  You see, dear husband cleaned out the fireplace/gas logs and somehow all of that soot and black nastiness transferred onto our 9 month old white carpet.  Have I told you about this "new" carpet?  Cheapest carpet ever created and it is throughout the entire house (other than the bathrooms and kitchen, and laundry room).  So I have probably 2000 sq ft of this stuff.  It's "new" so I can't rip it out and feel okay with that, at this point.  So I clean it, regularly.  The vacuum is awesome, read my blog post about that and buy that sucker to change your life!  But the carpet stains with people wearing shoes, and the dog, and kids...we live in this house!

I have an awesome carpet cleaner that I bought on sale on Amazon.  I seriously love it and used it to restore our carpet in our old house, the little bit that we had, before we sold it.  I shared about it on Facebook and about 6 of my friends went out and bought the same one.  I know because when we moved, most of you gave me the box it came in and I moved a LOT of clothes in those big boxes!  But when I filled up the machine with hot water, I noticed I was out of carpet cleaner for the machine!  I know at 3:50 when the kids arrive home, their playroom will no longer be picked up and that carpet needed my attention.  SO I used what I had - the Folex cleaner!  I sprayed the areas that were the darkest with the Folex, let it sit.  Went back in with the machine full of HOT water to rinse and dry and you can see the results yourself.  I never thought that would come out, especially after a week of it sitting there in the carpet.

See for yourself ---

And in case you need a carpet cleaner, check out the one I got.  A friend did an awesome video review I'll try to find and link to.  It's the #1 seller on Amazon and I can say I understand why.  My favorite thing about it is how quickly it leaves the carpet dry.  I finished at 1pm and when my kids get home in a couple of hours it will be completely dry for them to walk on!  No more waiting overnight to get these things done!

Organizing recipes

If you're like me and enjoy cooking, the hardest part can be deciding what to fix each night for dinner.  I feel like I make the same few things every week and am looking for new and exciting recipes to try that my family will eat.  Pinterest overwhelms me and those food videos on social media are often high calorie snacks and not real meals.  One of my favorite recipe sites is allrecipes.com because you can search by ingredients on hand, search with exclusions (ie mushrooms if your kids don't like them, or to avoid allergens) and you can see real ratings and reviews. I like to have recipes on hand so it's easier for me to see ingredients and steps, without going back to my phone.  So I print them out and put them in the clear page protectors (I'm a messy cook!). If the family decides it is a win, then I'll file it away in my recipe binder. Surprise, surprise, since moving it's been harder to keep up with the recipes.  For the entire month of May we ate...

Laundry time

It's been a busy week and I'm finally home today.  What task do I get the joy of completing, you might ask?  Laundry.  Family of 4.  We produce SO much laundry.  School clothes, sports clothes, pajamas, work clothes, play clothes, grass cutting/oil-changing clothes.  That's not including towels, sheets and everything else.  Unless you're rich and have a maid, you know the drill...SO much work!  So today I'm talking laundry.  Not dirty laundry, like most of Facebook is sharing these days. You hear me say it over and over, but in our new home, we love the layout so much more.  Not the upgrades, but the space.  One big gain for me, was the first time ever, not having a laundry CLOSET, but a real laundry/mud room.  Space for my washer and dryer, it even had a folding table (which I exchanged for 2 huge shelves for pantry storage) and space for a sorter!  This is my sanity for laundry - the sorter. We have a laundry chute, ...

Ways to Save Money by doing what you're doing....

Since moving, money has been tight.  We've had new needs in our new home to set it up and make it work, on top of lots of unexpected fixes that our lovely home inspector "overlooked".  Hubby works even more hours for the same salary pay.  I still carry on multiple part time jobs from home when I can.  We found out the house is in need of a big project that is a bit outside of the emergency fund at this point, so we're doing what we can to save for that one day soon when that big purchase will be made.  With the kids in school, I've been searching for ways to save even more money.  Coupons are not as helpful in this area - even with most stores doubling up to 75 cents.  Sale prices are even double of what I used to pay at Kroger on a great sale.  I've found myself shopping a lot at Costco & Sam's Club and filling in at Aldi.  So I'm going back to my old standby ways of saving money, like I did when the kids were small and the diaper prices...
